Oksana Kostina:

Born : 15th April 1973 in Irkoutsk
Died : 11th February 1993 in Moscow,car crash
Coach: Olga Buyanova

Oksana was the Star of the year 92, she got excellent results at the European championships, she won the five titles at the 92 RSG Worlds in Belgium. Although she did not participate at the Barcelona olympic Games, she obviously was the best gym of the year.
She was in the shadow of the two Ukrainian gymnasts Alexandra Timoshenko and Oksana Skaldina. Even if both won many events in the end of the 80’s, Kostina was the most expressive of the three Soviet gymnasts. She can be remembered by all the RSG lovers for her delightful and expressive style, her technical work, her talent, and a really great kindness.

She was saying during the ‘90 Goodwill Games that RSG is “a sport, an art, the grace”.
Oksana, we’re still remembering you. You’re a Star!
Some results:

  • ‘89 Worlds Championships in Sarajevo: 2nd ball
  • ‘90 Gym Masters in Stuttgart: 2nd AA, 1st rope, 1st hoop, 1st ball, 4th ribbon

Almudena Cid: a great athlete

Posted by: gymnastics9 on: September 11, 2008

Almudena Cid Tostado (born June 15, 1980 in Vitoria, Spain) is an Individual Rhythmic Gymnast. She is the oldest currently competing elite rhythmic gymnast. Almudena lives in Barcelona. Almudena holds a modelling contract with Nike and she has modelled for an underwear store, Love Store. She speaks Spanish, Basque and English. Almudena is one of the only Western European gymnasts able to seriously compete against gymnasts from Eastern Europe.

Almudena started rhythmic gymnastics at age 6, her mother originally wanted her daughter to do ballet but, after her family commented on her flexibility she enrolled the young Almudena in rhythmic gymnastics. She has been a member of the Spanish National Team since November 1994. She became the first Spanish gymnast in history competing in two olympic finals, Atlanta and Sydney, and she is also the only rhythmic gymnast to make the finals at four consecutive Olympic GamesAtlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 & Beijing 2008.

In June 2001 the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique announced that Almudena’s “body-apparatus relationship” with ball was approved by the Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee. As the code describes the cid tostado element:

Starting position: on one knee, leg forward, ball held with the foot. large roll of the ball on both legs. Originality 0.10 (§ 2.6.5.)

The star Anna Bessonova (bronze medal in Athens Olympics and world champion 2007) couldn’t win the gold. The judges underscored her(I think). In her clubs routine was the best ,in ribbon too.In hoop and  rope was very good too.But the score which they gave to her was very  bad.
